Hi, I'm Coach Cory! Here, I aim to WIN at life, school, and basketball. ‘W’ stands for a strong work ethic, ‘I’ represents impact and inclusivity to every player, and ‘N’ reflects commitment to nobility, continuous growth, and never giving up. Let’s work together to achieve excellence both on and off the court!

About Me.

My passion for athletics, education, and positively impacting student-athletes began early on in life. I led martial arts classes at 12 years old and from that point forward, I coached basketball and participated on high school and collegiate sporting teams. As a former student-athlete, I have goals to continue to grow the next generation and proactively guide student-athletes in the right direction, be that in an administrative, coaching, or teaching role. A Coach is critical in a team’s operations and success, ensuring events run smoothly, communication is clear, and the student-athlete comes first. The coaching field is an excellent pathway to accomplish my career and personal goals.

In 2016, I moved to Virginia from Utah, played basketball, attended school and worked. Since 2022, I have held the position of assistant coach for my alma mater, Southern Virginia University. In the past 2 seasons, we have won back to back conference championships and automatic bids to the national tournament. Both were exhilarating experiences! My expertise ranges from high school to Division One to Division Three institutions. Within these positions, I gained experience with team operations, player management, recruiting, scouting, and logistics. I learned how to organize tasks appropriately, communicate well, and step out of my comfort zone. In addition to athletic coaching, I spearheaded a student success program at a High School where we implemented an effective remediation and tutoring curriculum, turning around the academic climate.

One of the most important standards I have set for my life and desire my players to as well, is to WIN at life, school, and basketball. The ‘W’ represents my work ethic, the ‘I’ applies to how impactful and inclusive I can be, and the ‘N’ aligns with how I will always strive to be noble, next level and and never give up! I am someone who is extremely loyal, hard working, loving, and positive. I try to always see the best in people. I think coaches and players, each have important talents and abilities that can help teams win, if utilized and developed properly.

I received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Leadership from Southern Virginia in 2020, graduated in October 2024 with a Master’s of Arts in Teaching from Liberty University, and am currently en route to receiving a Master’s in Athletic Administration from Idaho State University by August 2025.

A coach is an effective employee when they are organized, assertive, prompt and communicative. I am goal oriented with a competitive fire to excel. I always strive to grow in an effort to improve my craft. My philosophy is founded on honesty, discipline, and responsibility. I intend to represent any organization I am a part of in a positive manner. Coaches are essential and beneficial leaders in a young athlete’s life; I plan to work my hardest to be one of them.

Personality Type: ESFJ
(16 personalities, n.d.)

"ESFJ personalities enjoy the responsibility that comes with organizing social situations, and the enjoyment they feel in managing other people translates well into management positions. As team leaders, they find ways to make everyone feel involved, uniting people and smoothing relations in order to get things done.
Because their personality traits are so strongly expressed, leading with practical sense and social vigor, people with the ESFJ personality type tend to find the most satisfaction in careers that revolve around making the best use of these qualities. They are well organized. They enjoy bringing order and structure to their workplace, and they often work best in environments with clear, predictable hierarchies and tasks. Monotony and routine work are not a challenge for them, as long as they’re working in the company of others" (16personalities, n.d.).
